Join the “zine scene” this weekend and enjoy independent works by local and well-known zinesters. In a nutshell, zines are self-published, small-circulation books, papers or websites that artistically express a spectrum of topics—everything from global warming to a zinester’s interest in hairless cats. Sounds interesting, right? Bring the family out to enjoy the FREE, one-day Long Beach Zine Fest and learn more about zines, listen to live music, and begin to create your very first zine. READY Long Beach 2018

How prepared are you for an emergency? My thought, you can never be too prepared. The annual READY Long Beach is a citywide outreach program designed to promote emergency readiness. This family event will include on-site emergency response vehicles, food, music, demonstrations and merchandise. Have all of your preparedness questions answered by professionals in the emergency response field. Aloha Run Long Beach

Gather the ohana for a 5k or 10k run/walk and Aloha. This is a family-friendly event with discounted registration fees for the little ones. This will be an entertaining race and is perfect for introducing your family to an organized race and fitness lifestyle. The race includes a finisher’s medal for all participants, chip timing, an Aloha Run trucker hat and Hawaiian entertainment. Registration begins at 6 a.m. and the 10k begins promptly at 7:15 a.m. Enjoy live music by the Loa Greyson Band and Hawaiian dancers at the finish line.
