908 Athlete of the Week: Long Beach State basketball player, Gabe Levin
Long Beach State senior forward, Gabe Levin, tied the 47-year single-game scoring record set by Ed Ratliff with 45 points in a 104-105 double overtime loss to UC Davis on last week. Levin set the Big West Conference record for free throws made, 24, and free throws attempted, 28, in addition to going 10-for-20 from the floor. The Oak Park, Illinois native followed that performance with a double-double, 20 points and 11 rebounds, in a win against Cal Poly on Saturday night at the Walter Pyramid.
The Loyola Marymount transfer only played in 16 games for LBSU last season, where he led the team with 6.2 rebounds and 12.2 points per game before his season was cut short by injury. Levin has played and started in every game this season and leads the team with 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 30.1 minutes per game. LBSU’s next game is on Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Walter Pyramid against conference foe, UC Santa Barbara.
